The Mercantile Minute
What do you do when life throws you a curve ball? We have many ups and downs in our nation, our state, our city and our life, but where do you turn when everything seems to be going wrong? We like this verse from Psalms in the Bible, it is Psalm 55:22,
"Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken."
What a comforting thought! When the cares of this world become to much for you to hold on to, cast them on the Lord! His shoulders are wide enough to hold whatever is weighing you down. He will take the worry and the fear for you. It may not turn out the way you want. It may turn out to be a worst case scenario, but rest assured that God is there for you in those times as well!
We want all of our customers to know that we are more than just a shopping destination. We seek to be a reprieve for those that need one. We try and be a place of relaxation and comfort for those that are in need of that. NOTHING comforts or offers reprieve like God though!
Dr. Stephen Covey wrote a book called the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and while they are all very good habits, and I encourage you to read this book, the one that sticks out to me is something that our society has gotten really confused about, and that is keeping "First Things First". What does that mean to you? What does keeping first things first look like in your life? To me, it means that my family and my faith are what drive everything else. It means that I work to provide for my loved ones, not to drive my ego. It means that when i have a choice to make between a selfish want and an act of kindness that will live on long past my selfish desires, that I choose that act of kindness.
It seems to me that in the world we live in today, many people have second, third, fourth or even fifth most important things as the driving motivator in their life, and what this ends up doing is making the MOST important thing suffer. If you put things in the RIGHT order, your life will spell J.O.Y! Jesus, Others & THEN You! I don't always succeed at this like I should, and none of us will perfect this in this life, but it is something I think about each day when I come into the Davis Mercantile, and each night when I leave. Am I keeping the MOST important things at the front of my mind, and letting the other fall in order of importance after that most important thing? I think that is something we ALL should keep in mind every day we have on this Earth!
Funny thing about life. Things seem to be always changing. One door closes, another opens. Sometimes two doors shut and nothing is open, you trun around and there are five doors wide open all around you. This is part of what makes life exciting! We thrive on the ever changing world around us at Davis Mercantile, ESPECIALLY when that ever changing world makes things easier for our customers, and we'll be honest, for us too!
That being said, the roads that lead to our facility that were closed due to construction, are now open once again! We know many of you have found new and interesting ways to get to us to patronize our shops, and for that we thank you! You can certainly continue using your new imporvised way to get here, or, you can use Main Street. Another great thing about life is choices! Well, now when it comes to driving to come see us, you have them! We hope this not only makes it easier to get to us, but that it allows you to come more often that you did during construction! We hope to see all of you soon!
